Welsh Highland in the Snow
February 2004

While it is common to see snow on the mountain tops, it's quite unusual to see snow lying at the Railway's altitude; also, typically the eastern part of Snowdonia gets more snow than the western part where the WHR runs. Heavy snowfalls across North Wales in late February 2004 were the first of significance since reopening to Rhyd Ddu, and were serious enough to see the cancellation of one full day's services on February 26th. The pictures below were taken two days later, and show familiar scenes in a less familiar guise. Hover your mouse over the thumbnails for captions.
