Section 1:  Caernarfon to Dinas

  This is  the most detailed section of the route to learn with many landmarks close together

Caernarfon station	OB 20.00 0 km First kilometric marker is under the footbridge - markers count upwards from 20km
The line initially runs on a gently curving shelf partly secluded by trees above the Seiont estuary, finally crossing the river itself at Pont Seiont:
	0.29km Lon Parc footbridge OB 20.29 Almost within sight of the station (Travis Perkins warehouse on right is a useful landmark)
	0.77km St Helens Road Bridge  OB 20.77 Concrete overbridge, replaces former road bridge which still passes  under the line just to the north (located by the rusty railings). Note distinctive interior patterning seen above
0.80km St Helens Road foot crossing  -LC 20.80   The crossing is visible beyond the bridge in the view above and also looking back from Pont Seiont in the view below
	0.87km.Pont Seiont  UB 20.87(Looking north) Carries the line high over the river Seiont at the head of the estuary. Low brick parapet, overhanging trees. Foot crossing and St Helens Road bridge just visible in distance.
The line now climbs steadily through Coed Helen cutting to Hendy crossing
	0.95km. Coed Helen Road Bridge OB 20.95 At the entry to the Coed Helen cutting Distinctive central steel prop
	Distant signal for Hendy Crossing at end of cutting Coed Helen Cutting 21km marker is in cutting (Left side)
	1.43km Hendy Crossing LC 21.43   5 mins approx Compulsory stop at crossing - poor visibility. Llanfaglan Road runs beside the line on left
From Hendy Crossing, the line runs though fields and hedgerows to Bontnewydd (with a short cutting at Fron Goch)
	1.64km  Pant Farm and Crossing LC 21.64 Right side Located just north of Llanfaglan Road Bridge
	1.71km  Llanfaglan Road Bridge OB 21.71 Bridge spans a short cutting. Pant Farm Crossing is before the bridge, just ahead of the loco in this view
	1.87km Fron Goch Crossing LC 21.87   (Right side  looking back) Caution: crossing often used by pedestrians visiting nursery
	Fron Goch nursery Right side Polytunnels on this side,  glasshouses on the other 2.00km   22km marker just before Bronydd Crossing
	2.09km Bronydd Crossing LC 22.09 Right side Leads to a secluded cottage, only the chimneys are visible from the line
2.51km Cefn Werthyd Crossing LC 22.51 Left side	Right side
	2.65km  BONTNEWYDD HALT (right side looking back)   8mins approx
	2.70km Bontnewydd Foot Crossing LC 22.70 Right side looking back The Halt is visible further away
	2.82km Gwyrfai Viaduct UB22.82 Crosses both river and road just south of Bontnewydd Halt and Crossing.
After Bontnewydd and the viaduct, the line runs along a heavily wooded  embankment to Bronant Crossing, climbing steadily all the way. 3.00km 23km marker on embankment
	3.12km Plas y Bont Bridge UB 23.12 Lies in the trees on the embankment (Same type of railings as Gwyrfai Viaduct but a  shorter span)
	3.36km Bronant Crossing LC 23.36   Right side looking back This inconspicuous crossing lies at the transition from embankment to cutting
The line now enters Dinas Cutting from which it  emerges at Dinas Farm Crossing, climbing steadily all the way:

	3.56km Plas Dinas Bridge OB 23.56 (Right side looking back)   Deep in the cutting
	3.87km Dinas Farm Crossing LC 23.87 Note the stop board protecting the shunt limit - with the proceed indicators illuminated
Beyond  Dinas crossing the line passes the carriage sheds, levelling out as it enters Dinas Station
	4.00km  24km marker is by the carriage sheds, near the North Yard lever frame
