March 1995 - A Transfer Order was made transferring the powers and
remaining property (i.e. essentially the trackbed) of the old Welsh Highland
Railway Company to Ffestiniog Railway Holdings Ltd. This safeguarded the
right to operate a railway over the former WHR trackbed from Dinas to Porthmadog.
Before work can start on this stretch a Transport & Works Act Order
is needed. The extensive paperwork required is under way.
-
April 1995 - the WHRS exhibited Beyer-Garratt locomotive K1 in Caernarfon,
attracting much local interest and support.
-
June 1995 - The Ffestiniog made a Planning Application to build
and operate a railway over the former standard-gauge trackbed from Caernarfon
to Dinas, start of the old WHR.
- October 1995 - the UK Millennium Fund announced a grant of £4.3
million towards the rebuilding of the WHR. This represents almost half of
the estimated cost of a rebuilt railway as far as Rhyd Ddu by the end of the
century.
-
November/December 1995 - A series of public consultation sessions
were held in Caernarfon, Porthmadog, and other communities through which
the Railway will pass.
-
December 1995 - Planning permission was granted for the building
and operation of the first section of the Railway, from Caernarfon to Dinas;
this opens the way to leasing the land from local authorities and beginning
construction.
